Dr William Chik is an Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Cardiac Device Implantation Specialist and adult General Cardiologist. He currently has public appointments as a Consultant Cardiologist (Visiting Medical Officer) at Westmead and Auburn Public Hospitals. He is an Accredited Cardiologist at Westmead and Norwest Private Hospitals. He also strongly supports rural and remote healthcare through his work as a general physician and cardiologist at outreach cardiac device clinics.
Dr Chik specialises in management of heart rhythm disorders and is an expert in radiofrequency ablation of cardiac arrhythmias. He has special interests in cardiac device implantation including pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and biventricular pacing to deliver cardiac resynchronization therapy.
Dr Chik was awarded his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the University of Adelaide in 2002. He completed advanced cardiology training in South Australia and Westmead Hospital in New South Wales. He was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2009. He is a Clinical Lecturer with the University of Sydney. His enthusiasm and ongoing commitment to active clinical teaching led to his position as the Clinical Lead for Post-Graduate Cardiology Training at the Westmead Hospital.
He undertook his PhD studies in the sub-specialty field of Cardiac Electrophysiology from 2009-2014. Outstanding cardiac research output has been highlighted by over 100 national and international peer reviewed publications and abstract presentations, culminating in international recognition and awards from the cardiac electrophysiology and pacing community. His research was supported by scholarships awarded by the CSANZ, RACP and the University of Sydney.
Dr Chik was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Sydney.
He returned to Australia following the completion of his Clinical Interventional Fellowship specialising in Cardiac Arrhythmias and Cardiac Device Management at the prestigious Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA (2013-2015) where he worked and published clinical research with the renowned world leading experts in this field.
