Dr Hong has been practising medicine for 25 years, 10 of which have been here in Australia. In order to practice in Australia, James retrained, completing his FRACGP in January, 2009. He has since practised locally. James is a strong advocate of multidiscipline primary health care and a believer in preventive medicine. James always does his best to practise evidence based medicine.
James practises a comprehensive range of GP medicine, but is especially interested in Aged Care (he calls himself as a GGP – Geriatric General Practioner), chronic diseases management and mental health management. He has been extensively involved in aged care services for more than 7 years.
While in China, James treated and worked with cancer patients as an Oncology consultant in a large tertiary cancer hospital. During this time, he trained and supervised many registrars and further, held the positions of deputy director and acting director of his department for almost 8 years, before deciding to leave China. Somehow, during this busy time, James fell in love with computer science, earning a Master’s Degree in Information Science in New Zealand and is half-way to completing his PhD.
James has always identified as a ‘sporty’ person, but an unfortunate ACL rupture led to a knee reconstruction. It is this experience however, that has allowed him to better understand his patients. He loves movies: from “Ip man” to “Gone with the Wind”, from “Kung-Fu Panda” to “Forest Gump”. You are welcome to chat about movies with him, but be aware that he may ask you to watch a movie for homework.
