Our Principal Clinical Psychologist is Dr Adrian Allen. He holds a PhD and Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of New South Wales. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) degree with First Class Honours from Macquarie University.
Adrian holds an endorsement from the Psychology Board of Australia to practice as a clinical psychologist. He is also a Board-approved clinical supervisor to higher degree clinical trainees. His treatment approach focuses on using cognitive behavioural techniques to help clients manage difficulties with trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, grief and health-related concerns. He complements this with mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches. He has experience working with a variety of conditions including posttraumatic stress disorder, body image concerns, panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobia (e.g. needle/injection phobia, spider phobia, claustrophobia), social anxiety and shyness, generalised anxiety and worry, obsessive-compulsive disorder, health anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties and insomnia, and psychosis. He spent several years working at the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney. He has worked at the Kiloh Centre at the Prince of Wales Hospital and the Anxiety Treatment and Research Unit at Westmead Hospital.
In addition to working with his clients, Adrian is a lecturer for the NSW Institute of Psychiatry, a Conjoint Lecturer for the School of Psychiatry and the School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales and is a member of the WHO Global Clinical Practice Network. He is also actively involved in developing anxiety treatment programs and conducting research into anxiety disorders at St Vincent’s Hospital and the University of New South Wales. He has published his research in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and regularly presents his research at national and international conferences. He is a regular guest on Australian television discussing areas within psychology and mental health.
