My approach to therapy is person-centred and respectful, with an emphasis on acceptance and working in a non-judgemental way, allowing my clients to engage fully in the therapeutic process.
I work with individuals, couples, families and I am passionate about women’s health and working with young adults. I enjoy working with a wide variety of issues including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, pain management, grief and loss, body image issues, self-esteem and trauma (including complex trauma). I also holds a special interest in working with autoimmune disease and helping people in the care and management of chronic illness.
I draw my techniques from evidence-based modalities and tailor therapy to meet the individual needs of my clients. Because I also believe in the importance of working with the impact of past experiences on the nervous system, I possess additional specialized training in Somatic and neuro-biologically based trauma treatment modalities. Because each person's experiences and challenges are different, I use a flexible and integrative approach and utilise a number of psychological approaches including:
Interpersonal Therapy Emotion Focused Therapy Attachment theory Schema Therapy Somatic Experiencing Comprehensive Resource Model Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
I have previously worked in a private psychiatric hospital setting and am also experienced in conducting group psychotherapy. Before training to become a Counselling Psychologist, I worked for 9 years in social research across education, disability and community sectors.
I am registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and am a member of the Association of Counselling Psychologists.
