Nghi has a passion and interest in helping clients to achieve a meaningful and value-driven life. She has experience working across the lifespan, and is particularly interested working with children, adolescents and their families, and young adults. She sees clients with a wide variety of presenting concerns, such as, children with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties; parenting support, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, perfectionism, relationship issues, binge eating and body image concerns.
Qualifications: Nghi has a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Master of Clinical Psychology. She is also currently a PhD Candidate and her research is focused on parental characteristics and screen time on early childhood development. She is a registered Psychologist and undertaking the Registrar program to be endorsed as a Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Nghi is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and Australian Clinical Psychology Association.
Experience: Nghi has experience working within both the public, private, university, community and NGO sector, and with both individual and group settings. This includes: Northern Beaches Child and Youth Mental Health Service, The Sydney Clinic (in-patient and out-patient services), University of Technology Sydney Psychology Clinic, Headspace, and Wellways.
Approach:Nghi’s approach is warm, empathetic and supportive. She is focused on tailoring treatment to your needs, working collaboratively with you to achieve your goals, maximise your personal strengths and overcome obstacles using evidence-based approaches. She draws from several therapeutic approaches which include: Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy (ST), Parent Management Training (PMT), Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Emotion Coaching. In particular, when working with children and adolescents, Nghi uses creative techniques in therapy (e.g., therapy games, cards, drawing, building) to elicit engagement with strategies and build rapport, as she believes the relationship with the client is valuable in achieving positive treatment outcomes.
