Juanita completed her Masters in Clinical Psychology at The University of Canberra. She recently relocated to the Sunshine Coast, from Canberra, after more than 7 years in private practice. Juanita brings with her a wealth of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of mental health difficulties across all ages. Her special interests include anxiety and mood disorders (including performance anxiety), eating disorders, adjustment issues, bullying and adjustment to parenthood (including postnatal depression). Juanita is certified and experienced in Family-Based Treatment (FBT) also known as the Maudsley Approach, an evidence-based outpatient treatment for eating disorders. The Maudsley Approach is a sought-after alternative model to costly inpatient or day hospital programs.
Other interests include adjusting to parenthood and postnatal depression (PND). Adjusting to life with a newborn brings a great deal of new learning and change. More specifically, Juanita assists parents with antenatal and postnatal depression and anxiety, early parenting, work-life balance and relationship adjustment. She delivers treatment with an individually tailored approach, employing a variety of evidence based interventions such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Family-Based Therapy (FBT) and CBT for eating disorders (Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, CBT-E). Juanita is also part of our children and teens team. She is especially passionate about working with children and young people with mood related difficulties such as anxiety, depression, performance anxiety as well as relational problems such as bullying, peer relationships, self-esteem issues and adjustment difficulties.
