Joanne is a skilled and compassionate psychologist who is committed to a framework of evidencebased practice. Her background and clinical training have led her to emphasize the importance of comprehensive, accurate and specialised assessments for adults, children, and families. She utilizes extensive clinical skills and clinical testing resources to provide effective and useful assessments and recommendations for intervention. Joanne also emphasizes the role of informed choice when providing interventions, and is skilled in the use of a range of therapeutic approaches for both adults and children including solution-focused therapy (SFT), behavioural therapies (BT), cognitivebehavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical-behaviour therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and interpersonal behaviour therapy (IPT). Joanne is committed to making sure that the goals of any assessment, intervention, or therapy address meaningful and measurable change in the areas of life that are important to us all, such as family, friends and social contact, work, or school. Joanne has worked in general community mental health services, in-patient mental health units, child and adolescent services, alcohol and drug services, forensic services, and in private practice with both adults and children in Australia and New Zealand. She also has a background in rehabilitation and work recovery. Joanne has specialist experience and skills in working with adults who have encountered a wide range of mental health issues, work difficulties, relationship problems, and trauma. She is experienced and committed to working with people who find themselves in situations of risk whether as a result of their own or others decisions, and emphasizes the contributions of relationships, hope and strengths to support safety and recovery. Joanne’s approach is collaborative and respectful of how differences such as age, personality, culture, and life experiences shape behaviour, thoughts, and feelings in unique ways. She believes that any chosen therapeutic approach should be evidence-based, practical, and acceptable to the individual and their personal goals. Joanne is especially committed to working with children and adolescents who are experiencing ongoing neurocognitive, mood and behavioural difficulties. She has a thorough knowledge of working with situations of bullying, and signs of distress such as anger, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts. Joanne prioritises families, and uses models of intervention which maximise family involvement such as dialectical behaviour therapy with adolescents (DBT-A) and the collaborative problem-solving model (CPS) for disruptive disorders. She has a special interest and skill in diagnostic clarification of children’s mental health and behavioural difficulties including autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, oppositional-defiance disorder and emotional dysregulation, and believes that these need to be responsibly addressed within a context of differential diagnoses such as anxiety and depression, perfectionism, learning difficulties, giftedness, or trauma. She will recommend and use an optimal number of psychometric assessment tools to ensure a responsible and clear outcome. Joanne emphasizes the need to understand how children and adolescents function across multiple domains, and is committed to making sure that the work of therapy with children makes practical sense in their lives, their families, and at school. Joanne is a registered psychologist with a master’s degree in clinical psychology and is currently enrolled in the clinical psychology registrar program. She is available for appointments on...
