Barrington is a registered Psychologist and healthcare provider and is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society. Barrington obtained his BA from Sydney University majoring in Psychology & Sociology. He also gained his Post Graduate degree and Masters degree in Sport Psychology from the University of Western Sydney, together with a continuing interest and ongoing research into Neuroplasticity.
Barrington has a special passion for Performance Enhancement Psychology. Prior to qualifying as a Psychologist, Barrington spent over 25 years in the entertainment industry as a singer, songwriter and actor and therefore has first-hand experience of some of the issues that all performers can face.
Barrington has not only assisted actors, singers and dancers to reach their optimal level he has also worked with clients in the corporate environment. Being able to engage in public speaking, updating colleagues at business meetings, giving a sales presentation, all require skills that come under the umbrella of Performance Enhancement Psychology.
As a psychologist, Barrington has a whole person approach and works with his clients to identify the best “tools” for them to reach a beneficial outcome. Barrington acknowledges there are real stresses and difficulties that exist in individuals lives that may need addressing but the intention is not always to look for what is wrong and fix it but also find what is right and enhance it.
Barrington has also had extensive experience working with clients to help them manage a wide range of psychological concerns including depression, anxiety, anger management, relationship issues, problems with self esteem/self confidence, stress management, alcohol and other drug issues.
His treatment approaches include Client Focussed Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Psychoeducation and Brain Based Therapy.
