Monica Finetti has more than 30 years of clinical experience in the areas of counselling and psychotherapy. She works from a trauma informed, mindfulness perspective. She has extensive experience working with people from a wide range of cultures and identities. Monica speaks Spanish and has worked closely with the Spanish speaking community.
Monica worked in the community health sector in NSW from 1977- 2011 in a range of services including women’s health, sexual health, child sexual assault and domestic violence.
She has trained in several counselling models that support her work. These include Trauma Informed Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. In addition, Monica is trained in Psychodrama, and Gestalt Therapy, including sandy tray work. She also integrates elements of neuroscience, differentiation theory, and attachment theory into her practice.
She is a registered psychologist and currently works full time in private practice in Newtown, Sydney. She works with adults and young people who are:
survivors of sexual assault, child sexual assault and child abuse, domestic violence, experiencing difficulties with their mental health (e.g.anxiety and depression, bi-polar disorder), experiencing grief and loss, dealing with issues related to their sexual or gender identity, experiencing relationship difficulties, or sexual difficulties Monica is a member of the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency. She is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society. A requirement of both organisations is that psychologists attend regular professional development training and undertake regular supervision.
