Over the past 18 years, Lily has worked with individuals, couples and families to address relationship challenges and symptoms as well as the many unavoidable stressful events that are part of the fabric of life. From a Family Systems perspective symptoms are, more often than not, seen as the expressions of the instinctually driven adaptations we humans make to relational and other challenges. Lily has worked and continues to work with clients to understand the short term and long term benefits/costs, of their instinctually driven adaptations as expressed in behaviours. The idea is that an increased understanding about the facts of their functioning opens up options to manage difficult circumstances.
Lily has extensive experience working with clients from a wide array of cultural backgrounds. As a bicultural individual, Lily is interested in exploring with clients the manner in which culture finds its expression in the emotional/instinctual interdependence of members of a tribe/nation. Lily is originally from South America (Peru); she migrated to Australia in 1973 and speaks fluent Spanish.
Lily also has experience supervising and coaching health professionals in the application of Family Systems Theory.
Lily’s clinical work is mainly informed by Family Systems Theory; given the theory’s strong link to science, she continues to study and read as widely as possible in the areas of evolution, ethology and the neurophysiology of emotions.
Lily also has an interest in spirituality and its place in systems thinking.
