Justin Doran is a clinical psychologist who brings a warm, respectful and collaborative approach to helping people explore difficulties and new ways of being in the world. He adds a generalist psychological approach the My Appletree team, seeing clients experiencing depression, anxiety, significant stress, grief and loss, life transition and other challenges. Justin works with people of all ages as well as families. He is trained in cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, and attachment-based family therapy. Justin draws from each of these therapeutic approaches to achieve best outcomes for the individual client or people that he is working with.
Prior to establishing a private practice, Justin gained extensive experience working with people of all ages in a range of clinical roles within the public health sector. Justin also has a background in research and tertiary level teaching at the Black Dog Institute, Macquarie University and the University of Wollongong. Through these positions he has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented at national conferences. Justin holds a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of Wollongong, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Macquarie University. Away from the therapy couch, Justin enjoys spending time with the people he loves, trying to lower his golf handicap, and surfing along Sydney’s beautiful northern beaches.
In recent years, he has also worked in adjunct teaching roles at Macquarie University and the University of Wollongong, teaching in the areas of developmental psychology and health psychology.
