BMBS, FRANZCO, DipAvMed Dr Reader studied medicine at Flinders University of South Australia graduating from there in 1985. After a number of years as a RAAF medical officer he completed training as a commercial pilot and worked in general aviation. Following this he undertook a post graduate fellowship in aviation medicine in which he has an ongoing interest. He completed his ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital before pursuing further.
general eye studies at the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth, UK. Upon returning from overseas Dr Reader worked as a general ophthalmologist in Sydney before relocating to Queensland. He has now been on the north side of Brisbane for the past 11 years working as a general ophthalmologist with an interest in aviation related ophthalmology. Northpoint Eye Care was started by Dr Reader and Dr Andrew Smith at the beginning of 2011 as a state of the art facility providing comprehensive ophthalmic care to the northern community of Brisbane.
His particular interests are in general ophthalmology, medical retinal diseases and aviation medicine. Dr Reader is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology and also of the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine.
He regularly attends both local and overseas ophthalmic meetings with focus on general eye issues and retinal disease.
