Dr Peter Illes has a special interest in interventional cardiology, device implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronisation therapy, for which he conducted the first implant in Australia. He is also interested in heart failure management. He now administers one of the largest home monitoring sites for pacemakers and defibrillators – monitoring over 200 patients remotely. This site is run with the cooperation of other cardiologists whose patients are monitored. Dr Illes is the principle investigator in numerous pacemaker and defibrillator outcome trials, including for PASSES (Medtronic), FREEDOM (St Judes), COGNITION (Biotronik), IN-TIME (Biotronik, IMPACT (Biotronik).
