Dr. Rez Rahim is a Melbourne Spine & Orthopaedic Surgeon with international fellowship training in complex spine surgery.

He completed his early medical training in Belarus and England, where he took his MRCS examinations with the Royal College of Surgeons, England in 2006. In 2007 he commenced his initial surgical training at the Alfred, Royal Melbourne and Sandringham Hospitals. He subsequently worked at orthopaedic departments in Victoria, Tasmania and NSW increasing his surgical skills. He completed his paediatric orthopaedic training at the Women and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide. He undertook advanced orthopaedic training in NSW, before completing three prestigious local and international fellowships.

The initial fellowship in Melbourne (AIMS accredited) focused on minimally invasive spine surgery and deformity correction as well as hip and knee replacements. Here, he gained valuable experience in the management of Melbourne’s geriatric population and the use of state of the art technologies to improve outcomes in this age group.

He was then awarded the highly competitive AO spinal fellowship, where he travelled to Budapest and worked under world renowned spinal tumour surgeon Professor Peter Varga. This specialist spine centre has difficult patients from throughout Europe referred for reviews and surgery. Dr Rahim was trained to perform En-Bloc resection of spinal tumours including sacrectomies (removal of the sacral bone). He also performed paediatric and adolescent scoliosis corrections at this time.

A third fellowship was undertaken with the Neurosurgical Unit at the prestigious Severance Hospital, Yonsei University in Seoul. Here he acquired advanced microscopic and endoscopic spinal surgical skills which he incorporates into his practice in Melbourne.

Dr. Rahim is highly trained in spine surgery and orthopaedics and is an active researcher. He has multiple publications in peer reviewed journals and has an extensive list of presentations at international meetings. He is also an invited guest speaker at spinal meetings and attends surgeon education sessions regularly.
