Dr Maxine Hawkins is an experienced clinical psychologist who works with adults and adolescents. Dr Hawkins works in private practice in the areas of depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, stress management, chronic illness, self-esteem, Workcover and family/relationship and couples counselling.
Dr Hawkins has worked as a Senior Clinical Psychologist for over 17 years across a number of hospitals in Melbourne and Perth in the areas of psycho-oncology, palliative care, cystic fibrosis, lung transplant, sleep disorders, chronic illness and irritable bowel syndrome. She completed her doctorate at The University of Melbourne.
Dr Hawkins was the Clinical Director Edith Cowan University Psychological Services Centre and Senior Lecturer. She lectures in the post-graduate clinical stream and provides clinical supervision in clinical masters/doctoral programs.
Consultancy Dr Hawkins has worked as a consultant on a range of projects and service evaluations for groups such as Deliotte, Monash University, the Department of Broadband, Communications & Digital Economy and Silver Chain. She was also a Professional Officer Psychology for the Australian Regulatory Health Agency assessing provisional psychologist and specialist title endorsements in WA.
Research Dr Hawkins has presented at a number of national and international conferences and has publications in peer-reviewed journals. She is also the principal investigator on a number of successful government and non-government grants (Perth & Melb). These have included telemedicine and ehealth, psycho-social care for cancer patients and carers, psychology report writing, creating models of palliative care for non-malignant disease and motivational interviewing to improve treatment adherence. Most recently she is a Principal Investigator on a WA Health funded project to assist patients with COPD using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Whilst Dr Hawkins enjoys her many roles her great passion is her clinical work with clients.
