Dr Mara Clarson is a specialist general surgeon and laparoscopic surgeon.
Dr Clarson also has a Bachelor of Arts, with majors in philosophy and psychology. When she’s not working long hours, she’s likely to be halfway up a mountain, bike riding, trail running or walking with her young daughter and dogs on the beach.
Dr Mara Clarson is a General Surgeon with a strong interest in Breast and Endocrine Surgery, trauma and advanced laparoscopic surgery.
Having completed medical school at the University of Queensland in 2003, Dr Clarson was quickly accepted onto the Advanced Surgical Training programme with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. She undertook her specialty surgical training in Queensland, predominantly at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. After achieving her Fellowship, Dr Clarson went on to spend time in Perth as the Fellow at the Endocrine Surgical Unit in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. There, she developed skills in minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery, as well as laparoscopic adrenal surgery.
Dr Clarson has continued to develop her advanced laparoscopic skills during her time at Nambour General Hospital, where she has a public appointment. While in Nambour she has been working towards improving surgical outcomes, in particular the outcomes of trauma, as the Case Coordinator for the Trauma Quality Improvement Committee.
