Dr Ligia’s professional journey began in South Africa where she obtained her primary degree, and subsequently completed a Masters in Family Medicine. In 2008 Ligia and her family decided to immigrate to Australia in search of a safer and brighter future for her girls. A year later she graduated from the Royal College of Australian General Practitioners and became a permanent Australian resident.
Dr Ligia has said many times she has the privilege of serving the patients of Ormeau Family Practice and working with its wonderful staff and doctors almost since the inception of the practice in 2011. When not at the office her energy is concentrated on raising her 3 beautiful little girls with her wonderful husband. It was the family aspect of family medicine that has drawn her to family practice to begin with – Ligia specifically enjoys the unique perspective of illness she gets from treating patients within the context of their families and community.
Ligia believes that insight gained in a family doctor’s office allows for a more comprehensive and meaningful management plan for individual patients and their families. Dr Ligia’s clinical practice is therefore not limited to any specific type of patient or illness although she does have a special interest in women’s and children’s health, antenatal care and preventative medicine.
