Dr Lewis Blennerhassett is highly trained in all aspects of plastic surgery, both adults and children, and has 25 years experience operating, treating and caring for patients at all major Perth hospitals, both public and private.
He was born and educated in Western Australia. His medical degree was from the University of Western Australia and his advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery was with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He completed four years of general surgery plus four years of advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Following this, specialist training was undertaken in Boston USA in 1999-2000, where he completed a postgraduate surgical fellowship administered through Harvard Medical School. Dr Blennerhassett was winner of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ travelling fellowship award in 1999.
He has served as WA Board Chairman of Plastic Surgeons for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (selecting future plastic surgery advanced trainees, developing their curriculum and examining them); Chairman of the Board for the International Medical Graduates (assessing foreign trained plastic surgeons and their eligibility to practice in Australia); President of the Western Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons; Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Princess Margaret Hospital, and is also involved in training medical students, junior doctors and young-surgeons-in-training.
