Dr Kalish is a Sydney based Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon and the founder of the Sydney Sinus & Allergy Centre. On a formal visit to some of the worlds foremost centres in Rhinology (sinus surgery), skull base surgery and allergy in Brazil, across the United States of America, London, Oxford and Italy, Larry was exposed to some of the latest and most innovative approaches to disorders of the nose and sinuses. Advancements in technology, understanding of disease processes and a multidisciplinary approach is translating into better outcomes for age-old chronic problems like allergy, sinusitis and numerous tumours of the sinuses and skull base. Larry now joins a handful of outstanding surgeons in Sydney, dedicated to further advance our knowledge and skill set in dealing with sinus related problems. Larry completed his medical degree at the University of New South Wales with first class honours and after gaining general surgical experience combined his two main interests clinical research and surgery during his combined Surgeon-Scientist training. During this time he acquired a Masters of Medicine from the University of New South Wales for his molecular research at the Garvan Institute in Sydney, as well as a Masters in Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology (medical research and statistics) from the University of Sydney. He completed his fellowship in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and after mini fellowships in Sao Paulo Brazil with Prof Aldo Stamm and in Philadelphia with Dr James Palmer, Alex Chiu and David Kennedy, he visited numerous world renowned Rhinologists, Laryngologists and Allergists including Drs Joseph Jacobs and Milan Amin at NYU, Prof Roy Casiano at University of Miami, Dr Peter Hwang at Stanford University, Prof Valerie Lund at The Royal Throat Noseand Ear in London, Dr Grant Bates at the Oxford Radcliff Hospital and Prof Paulo Castelnouvo in Varese and Milan. Larry then returned to Sydney to take up a position at Concord Hospital in Sydney with a focus on Rhinology, Allergy and Skull Base surgery. He has the opportunity of working side by side with Sydney’s foremost rhinology team headed by Associate Prof Raymond Sacks and is currently setting up the first multidisciplinary clinic for complex sinus and allergy patients with Prof Ronald Walls (Immunologist). Larry also has appointments at Canterbury Public hospital where he performs a range of general ENT surgery and concentrates on paediatric cases as well as numerous appointments in the private sector including St Luke’s Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, The Hills Private Hospital and Hunters Hill Private hospital. Larry continues to present at numerous national and international meetings and publish widely in peer reviewed journals and has co-authored textbook chapters. He is involved in medical student through to post graduate level teaching as well as training courses for other specialists. Through his training and experience Larry can offer the full spectrum of advice and treatment options from alternative and main stream medical therapies through to the most advanced surgical interventions. Larry is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a current member of the Australasian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the Australasian Rhinological Society, The American Rhinologic Society, the European Rhinologic Society and the Australian Medical Association.
