Karen graduated from University of Adelaide in 1995 and completed her internship, general medical and cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. She was awarded the FRACP in 2002.
She has completed a PhD in Multimodality Imaging (cardiovascular magnetic resonance and CT) in cardiovascular disease with Professor Stephen Worthley at the University of Adelaide. She also undertook a senior clinical fellowship at the Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Unit of the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, U.K. and has achieved advanced competency (level III) in CMR.
Karen has particular interest in non-invasive cardiovascular imaging, using the modalities of echocardiography, cardiovascular MRI and CT.
