Dr Karen Baker graduated with her medical degree from the University of Queensland with a keen and early interest in Obstetrics and Gynaecology after helping to deliver babies during her rural term in medical school. Born and bred in Brisbane, she started her training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital specialising in tertiary high risk obstetrics as well as supervision of midwifery based birth centre models. During her senior years of training at the RBWH, she took a special interest in providing specialist care for early pregnancy complications to improve access and decrease emergency department waiting times to patients during a difficult and worrying time.

Further training in peripheral hospitals including Redcliffe and Bundaberg has given Karen a good understanding of general gynaecological conditions and increased surgical experience, as well as the appreciation of working in a team in which continuity of care and personal interest in patient’s wellbeing are priorities. She is one of the newest additions to the Bayside Obstetrics and Gynaecology group and is making her home in the Redlands community.

Special interests: High risk pregnancy, medical illness associated with pregnancy, early pregnancy complications, general gynaecology, abnormal pap smears, and infertility
