Julie is co founder of Treat Yourself Well Sydney (formerly Self Essentials), and co developer of Treat Yourself Well Online. Julie is a Clinical Psychologist, a Member of the Australian Psychological Society and a proud advocate of Health at Every Size (HAES) and Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH). Julie has been in practice since 1999 and has thoroughly enjoyed helping people overcome difficult times in their lives. She is passionate about enabling people to improve their sense of self, to improve their quality of life by being kind, patient and loving towards themselves, to Treat Yourself Well.
Julie's clinical training and practice is predominantly in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with the integration of mindfulness, compassion and acceptance based therapies (ACT). Over the past few years Julie has fallen in love with the incredible area of neurobiology and she continues to give herself food for her brain with reading as many books as possible and attending workshops.
Julie is dedicated to redirecting and protecting the emotional energy that is often wasted in the pursuit of sociocultural prescribed ideals of beauty, and towards popular dieting approaches. She is experienced with body image concerns and dissatisfaction, emotional eating and a variety of adult psychological presentations.
Through a collaborative and empathic approach, Julie aims to equip people with an increased sense of empowerment, self compassion and an improved quality of health and well-being. Julie is grateful to be a part of peoples journey in letting go of the 'diet trap', and she has hope that the weight focussed world we live in IS changing.
