Julie has extensive experience working in both private and public health settings. She has experience working with adolescents, adults and families facing a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, stress, chronic medical conditions, grief and trauma. In particular, Julie has a special interest in the impact of trauma or life stressors on the perception of self and how this contributes to problematic coping mechanisms. As a result, she specialises in the following areas:

Eating Disorders Emotional Eating Body Image Obesity and weight management Diabetes management Julie has had training and experience in both private practice and Queensland Health. She was previously placed at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital where she gained experience providing psychological interventions to both inpatients and outpatients with both medical and psychological diagnoses. During this time, she had the opportunity of providing psychological support to patients on the waiting list for Bariatric Surgery, and this is where her passion for eating disorders and body image difficulties began.

Julie is currently completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Griffith University and her area of research is the impact of various coping styles on Diabetes self-management. Her treatment approach integrates a range of evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive therapy
