After graduating with her medical degree from the University of Auckland, Dr Ku began her Ophthalmology career in the United Kingdom, before returning to Auckland to complete her training with the prestigious Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO).

In 2010, Dr Ku was one of five Ophthalmology Fellows from across Australia and New Zealand to receive a RANZCO scholarship to assist in completing her extensive subspecialty fellowship training overseas. She served as a Glaucoma Fellow at the world-renowned Singapore National Eye Centre, then as the Cornea and External Disease and Refractive Surgery Fellow at the Toronto Western Hospital under the professional guidance of Professor David Rootman, Dr Allan Slomovic and Assistant Professor Clara Chan.

During her fellowship training Dr Ku developed expertise in the management and surgery of primary and complex glaucoma patients (especially angle-closure glaucoma), complex cataracts, anterior segment reconstructive surgery, advanced corneal transplant surgery and collagen cross-linking for keratoconus, as well as ocular imaging.

Dr Ku has received a number of awards, including the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) Best Presenter Award in 2012, previous RANZCO Best Presenter and Best Poster Prize, the Sir William McKenzie Ophthalmology Prize and the University of Auckland postgraduate research first presentation prize. She also has a number of publications in peer reviewed journals, as well as a book chapter in the latest edition of Ocular Surface Diseases.

Dr Ku is passionate about assisting her patients to achieve their full visual potential, and feels extremely privileged to have the opportunity to restore sight and to improve people's quality of life. She prides herself on her genuine warmth, empathy and ability to communicate effectively. Dr Ku strives to ensure personalised treatment and believes that a patient's understanding is crucial to the treatment process. Aside from her broad Ophthalmic experience in different countries, she is also multi-lingual (fluent in English, Mandarin and Hokkien).
