My interest in Integrative Medicine was nurtured from my infancy. Though born in Sydney, I grew up in New Zealand and had the huge good fortune to live amongst and to travel widely around the Edenesque natural beauty of that modern day middle earth. This created a strong emotional affinity to the natural world which was balanced by the equally strong intellectual influence of being raised by a scientist to have wonder and respect for the huge complexity and power of the natural physical world, as well as to appreciate the invaluable importance of a rigorous scientific approach to understand and to utilise that natural world.

I returned to Australia in 1968, living in Sydney and attending The Scots College. I studied Medicine at the University of New South Wales and upon graduation in 1980, moved to live and work in our bush capital, Canberra. After working in General Practice for over 5 years I became acutely aware of the imbalance in the orthodox medicine approach, with it’s strong focus on the evaluation of pharmaceuticals in a reductionist approach to medicine, but no real appreciation of the natural world in treatment options. I thus sought out a pathway to study Integrative Medicine and after another 5 years, in 1986, I attained my Fellowship of the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine.

For over 20 years I was principal and director of Canberra’s premier Integrative Multidisciplinary Medical Practice, and have continued to study and broaden my knowledge and skills in both Integrative Medicine as well as orthodox Western Medicine.

By 2011, however, I was due for a sea change and returned to live and work in my hometown, the beautiful harbour city of Sydney. In Sydney, I chose to commence work for existing established practices, initially at the Pymble Grove Health Centre in Gordon and the Avenue Rd Medical Practice in Mosman, and then more recently at the Mosman Integrative Medicine practice. While all of these clinics have had much to commend them I realise that in order to deliver an optimal integrative medical service that I need to build a multi-disciplinary team of allied health professionals. Hence I have set up my own new clinic with Oasis Integrative Medicine.
