At some time in our lives, many of us may feel overwhelmed and need support in dealing with our feelings, whether it be due to a relationship breakdown, coping with losing a job or the death of a loved one, depression, anxiety, burnout, or generally feeling hopeless. In fact, almost 5 million Australians will experience a mental illness this year. However, only about 35% will seek the help that they need. This is a problem we can address. I understand that the losses and stresses of daily living can sometimes be debilitating. I want my clients to know that I offer a safe space, free of judgment, where we can work collaboratively and flexibly to identify and resolve their concerns. Using systematic and evidence-based principles, we will have a chance to explore ways of living with a greater sense of wellbeing, whilst learning healthier coping behaviours to handle the tougher times. As the medical profession endeavors to reduce the stigma associated with seeking psychological support, my clients will come to understand that mental illness is NOT a life sentence. Through appropriate treatment and ongoing support, most people with mental illness recover well and live healthy and productive lives. It is never ‘too early’, nor ‘too small’ or ‘too embarrassing’ a problem to seek help. Recovery is often defined as a process in which individuals assume an active role in developing new skills and strategies that they can implement when life starts to feel out of control. Through treatment approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy, I will work with my clients’ existing strengths and resources to boost their resilience in the face of stress, and reduce the chance of relapse. Whether it is a brief treatment plan or a longer-term agreement, I ensure that my clients always feel understood, and that they are in control of their choices. New to Wellbeing Clinic in Caringbah in 2017, I bring a fresh approach and a positive energy to addressing the mental health needs of your patients. I typically work in a problem-focused and goaloriented manner, so your patients will feel empowered to make changes that will see them pursuing a more balanced lifestyle. I am skilled in the areas of mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and supporting the client’s journey towards behaviour change. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults with mood and anxiety / phobic disorders; eating, body, and weight-related issues; anger management; dealing with stress and burnout; sports and performance-related anxiety; grief and loss; adjustment difficulties; sleep problems; relationship issues (individual); sexuality issues; psychological management of chronic pain and disease; psychosomatic disorders and health anxiety; internet / social media / gaming addictions; tackling perfectionism and procrastination; self-esteem and confidence problems, and; geriatric mental health (amongst many more areas, just ask!)
