Gus holds an honours degree in psychology, a master’s degree in clinical psychology, a master’s degree in pain management and a PhD in the area of clinical psychology / neuropsychology, all from the University of Sydney. Gus trained in a range of clinical settings prior to graduating. After completing his university based clinical training, Gus worked as a clinical psychologist with NSW Health for over 10 years before leaving to work in other areas in 2007. While still working for NSW Health, he was regraded to the position of Senior Clinical Psychologist. Gus is also a long term member of the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy ("AACBT") and is an Accredited Cognitive and Behavioural Therapist with the AACBT.

Gus began working in private practice in 1999 and currently maintains private practices in the suburbs of Kogarah, Miranda and Glebe in Sydney. Gus is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a full member of the Society’s College of Clinical Psychologists.

Gus has extensive experience in working with a broad range of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, stress, substance use difficulties, adjustment difficulties (including grief and medical problems) and other serious mental illnesses (such as psychotic illnesses). Gus regularly works with people experiencing difficulties in their day to day life including their home lives, relationships and at work.

Gus is strongly committed to assisting people via treatment strategies that have been shown to be effective as a result of thorough scientific investigation. His principal style of therapy is cognitive behavioural therapy due to its very strong scientific evidence base and demonstrated clinical effectiveness. Gus may employ other forms of psychological therapy where they are likely to be beneficial.

Cognitive behavioural therapy assists people to understand the relationships between their thought processes, emotions and behaviours. The client and therapist work together on developing a shared understanding of the relationships between problematic thought processes, behaviours and emotions and then employ effective strategies to create positive change.
