After graduating with a biomedical research degree and the Peter Bishop Medal from Sydney University in 1992, I received my medical degree from the same university in 1995. I then spent a period of ten years in the USA where I undertook neurosurgical training, scientific and clinical research, and fellowship subspecialisation. My entire neurosurgical training and PhD in biomedical sciences were carried out at the renowned Mayo Clinic followed by advanced training in cerebral vascular and tumour microsurgery through my subspecialisation Fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. Whilst in the USA I also held appointments as Spetzler Fellow in Neurosurgery, Attending Neurosurgeon at St Joseph’s Hospital, Arizona, and Chief Resident in Neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.

Before commencing full-time private practice in late 2013, I held the position of Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at ANU Medical School where I was responsible for surgical teaching to senior medical students, and the supervision of Surgical Masters candidates. I was recently a Visiting Attending Neurosurgeon at Royal Melbourne Hospital (2010-2012) and am now a VMO neurosurgeon at the 500+ bed Epworth Richmond and at East Sydney Private Hospital. I am a partner at Neurological Surgery Victoria in Melbourne, and direct CNS Neurosurgery in Sydney and Canberra.

I have written two books, “Brain Surgery” and “The Brain Aneurysm”, authored nearly 40 peer-reviewed articles and hold two US Patents. Notable amongst my awards are: ‘Congress of Neurological Surgeons Galbraith Award for Cerebrovascular Research’, 2003; ‘Mayo Clinic Scholarly Achievement Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement During Neurosurgical Residency’, 2005, and the Australian Capital Territory Quality in Healthcare Award for Safety in Neurosurgery, 2007.

I am a telehealth provider certified by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, with telehealth patients across Australia and our neighbouring islands. I am also a medicolegal expert in neurosurgery having provided over 500 independent medicolegal assessments and reports since 2009. As a proponent of excellence in medical education, research, patient care and communication, I very much look forward to participating in the care of your patients.
