Dr Munday graduated from Adelaide University in 1987 and completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in early 1997.

He entered private practice in February 1997 and joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a staff specialist.

In 1999 he joined the late Professor John Kerin in private practice at Ashford then North Adelaide and was fortunate to have him as a valuable mentor and assistant in Minimally Invasive Surgery early in his career.

In 2016 Dr Munday will be offering Robot assisted Laparoscopic Surgery (see below). This further expands the type of advanced minimally invasive procedures he can offer patients using the latest generation da Vinci Xi platform for procedures such as total laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, treatment of severe adhesions or endometriosis and mesh sacrocolpopexy for severe or recurrent prolapse.

Da Vinci Robot Assisted Surgery

This system allows the surgeon to sit at a dedicated console adjacent to the operating table with the outstanding magnified 3D vision and “wristed instruments” that allow the surgeon unique manipulation equivalent to the human wrist in function and dexterity facilitating a suturing capability equivalent to open surgery.

Potential advantages for the patient include less intra operative bleeding, less post operative pain, fever and infective complications, less hospital stay and quicker recovery and return to work and other normal activities.

Other advantages of this new approach to laparoscopic surgery are the stable camera platform (no longer requiring an assistant to hold the camera), the ability to operate in very confined spaces (such as deep in the pelvis) and vastly improved ergonomics for the surgeon. This allows complex procedures to be tackled with much less fatigue and muscle strain.
