David completed his medical degree with honours at The University of Melbourne in 2007 and qualified as a General Surgeon in 2016. He subsequently completed four years of Colorectal Surgery subspecialty training; three in Melbourne (St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, Northern Hospital) and one at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, United Kingdom. Whilst in Oxford, he worked in the internationally-renowned Pelvic Floor Unit and was exposed to a high volume of prolapse surgery and sacral nerve stimulation. He also became a member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland. Locally, he is a provisional member of the Australasian Colorectal Surgical Society.
When he is not working, he loves to spend time with his wife and two young children. He speaks fluent Cantonese and conversational Mandarin.
David's strong interest in research has led to his involvement in multiple randomised controlled trials in the field of colorectal surgery, as well as having published in leading international colorectal surgery journals. In addition, he completed a Master of Surgical Education through the University of Melbourne in 2018 to develop his skills in teaching and supervision of medical students and surgical trainees.
He is a faculty member on the Australian and New Zealand Surgical Skills Education and Training (ASSET) course, run by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. David also enjoys a weekly teaching commitment to the University of Melbourne Doctor of Medicine program.
