Dr Christiane Lawin-Bruessel trained in Hamburg and Muenster in Germany, at the Harvard Medical School in Boston as well as in Australia. Before her move to Canberra in 2001 she was Senior Staff Specialist and Deputy Director of the University Department of Ophthalmology, Muenster.
Dr Lawin-Bruessel is an ophthalmic surgeon skilled in cataract and glaucoma treatment as well as lacrimal duct surgery. A special focus of hers is the whole range of oculo-plastic surgery. This includes corrections for lid malpositions and minor and major tumour resection followed by reconstructive surgical procedures. She is experienced in retinal laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma and general ophthalmology.
Dr Lawin-Bruessel is a member of RANZCO and the German Society of Ophthalmologists.
In addition to her clinical and surgical appointments in Canberra, Dr Lawin-Bruessel also offers a regular clinic in Cooma and surgery lists in Goulburn as a Visiting Medical Specialist. She is routinely committed to a voluntary role through the John James Foundation to provide Ophthalmological services to remote communities in the Northern Territory.
