Dr Bruno Gomes is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Newcastle, who sub-specialises in hip, knee and deformity correction surgery. He values a caring approach and provides a personalised treatment plan for patients, based on the best current evidence.
Dr Gomes grew up in Sydney and completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1999. He moved to Newcastle for internship, and subsequently completed his orthopaedic specialty training through the Newcastle program.
After finishing his speciality training Dr Gomes further developed his skills by completing two prestigious fellowships:
Adult and paediatric limb reconstruction and deformity correction, based at the Royal Children's Hospital and St Vincent's Private Hospital in Melbourne Hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery and sports knee surgery at St Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Canada Upon returning from fellowship he set up practice in Newcastle. He has recently moved to newly renovated rooms in Charlestown.
Dr Gomes believes in the importance of using evidence based treatments for his patients. He ensures that his knowledge and skills remain up to date and in line with best practice. He has examined for the Royal Australian College of Surgeon's training examinations and has contributed to research published in peer reviewed medical journals.
During a rotation at Gosford District Hospital he met his now wife, Dr Erica Gomes, who is a GP at Smith Street Medical Centre. In his spare time he enjoys playing basketball and spending time with his wife, and their cheeky toddler.
