Minke is quietly proud to say she has never taken a sick day in 10 years of working in Australia. While you could say this Dutch obstetrician is just not “Aussie” enough yet, it’s simply because she absolutely loves what she does. Looking after women in their pregnancy is the most beautiful job in the world, and having three children of her own gives her plenty of perspective on the matter…

After obtaining her medical degree from the “Vrije Universiteit” in Amsterdam, Minke ventured to Australia and completed a Master of Science degree, studying “The Effects of Glucocorticosteroids on Growth Hormone Binding Protein”. She then committed to the arduous but ultimately rewarding process of completing the Australian Medical Council examinations and commencing her training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.

With a long-standing passion for high-risk obstetrics and imaging, Minke completed her training at RPA Hospital for Women and Babies and has since completed her advanced training in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound. She has always had a clear sight on a group obstetric practice with its benefits of many skilled hands and knowledgeable brains caring for women. Perhaps that is the Dutchwoman shining through.

Minke’s philosophy is of collaboration, organisation and communication and she is very excited to be a founding member of Sydney’s first group obstetric practice. She has come to recognise that obstetrics and gynaecology is increasingly complex and that combining strengths in a team environment is the only way forward for enhancing a woman’s health during pregnancy, and her gynaecological life.

With an infectious optimism, Minke never seems troubled and is committed to providing the latest knowledge and applying the greatest care to you. Whether you have an uncomplicated pregnancy or a more serious medical condition, Minke is comfortable in looking after your entire family to ensure the best possible outcome.

Her own words are testimony to her entire demeanour: “Happily married and being a proud mother of three gives me perspective in life. As much as possible, I live in the moment and appreciate things that really matter – as simple as they may be. My philosophy has always been to surround myself around with people who inspire and bring out the best in me, just as I aim to do for others. The team at Alana does just that”.
