Dr Burke is a general surgeon who has a subspecialist interest in proctology (anal and rectal conditions). His undergraduate medical training was at St Bartholomews Hospital, London. He has surgical fellowships from three surgical colleges - FRCS England, FRCS Edinburgh, and FRACS. In addition he is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK).
He arrived in Australia in 1979 and worked in Adelaide for 18 years as a Consultant Surgeon. He relocated to the Central Coast in 1998 when he was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Central Coast Area Health.
Coastal Haemorrhoid Specialists was created by Dr Adrian Burke, who lives and works on the Central Coast of NSW. He is a colorectal surgeon who has a particular interest in haemorrhoids and other anal conditions. He felt that there was a need for an expert clinic in which to treat these misunderstood and embarrassing conditions.
Dr Burke is the only surgeon in Australia accredited to use the carbon dioxide laser to treat haemorrhoids. This operation is very effective and virtually pain free, unlike conventional haemorrhoidectomy.
The clinic is located in our purpose built rooms in Ourimbah. We have two consulting rooms and a well equipped operating theatre on the premises.
He works in public surgical practice at Wyong and Gosford Hospitals, along with privately at Brisbane Waters Private Hospital and Tuggerah Lakes Private Hospital.
