David Salgado is a compassionate clinical psychologist who provides bulk-billing for all eligible people through Medicare. Additionally, DVA Health Cards (Gold and White) are accepted as payment upon a GP referral. David genuinely cares about people. He works with adults, couples, adolescents (above age 12), families and groups. David can treat most mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders, trauma, stress, relationship and family problems, and many other concerns also. Please do not hesitate to contact his office as your communication is very welcome with him.
The psychotherapeutic approaches David offers include cognitive behaviour therapies (CBT), mindfulness based therapies (MBT), schema focused therapies (SFT), emotional freedom techniques (EFT), developmental needs meeting strategies (DNMS) and attachment-based psychoanalysis. David also provides training in mindfulness and meditation techniques.
The foundation of David’s therapeutic approach is to provide people with a highly stable, supportive relationship that is consistently compassionate, sensitive and responsive to their wants, needs and feelings.
David has practised mindfulness meditation daily and intensively since the start of 2009 under the personal mentorship of international mindfulness meditation teacher Ajahn Brahm. As part of his personal mindfulness training David has stayed in meditation communities at times as well as attended numerous mindfulness retreats. David began teaching mindfulness and meditation to groups and individuals professionally in 2010, and since then he has taught many people. He also encourages people to exercise at least thirty minutes daily, as these two self-care practices (mindfulness and exercise) when made habitual can assist even psychologically healthy people to build and/or maintain psychological resilience.
If you are interested in psychology or would like to share psychological resources with other people, David has a mindfulness meditation CD, a variety of psychological information, and many other resources that he can provide to you at no charge and which you are welcome to share with other people freely.
David Salgado has special interests in relationships and mindfulness meditation.
David believes healthy relationships begin when we understand all people are very important and equally respectable; and relationships thrive once we have made a consistent habit of treating people as very important and with equal respect. David believes these principles apply just as much to the relationship between a person and their psychologist, as between a person and their family, friends and even strangers.
He applies these principles in the relationships he has with the people who come to see him as their psychologist. He aims to provide people with a therapeutic (i.e. healing) relationship in which their wants, needs and feelings are cared for, understood, accepted, respected and protected. He wants to give people more feelings of personal power, control and esteem in their lives. As a result he does not charge cancellation or missed appointment fees. If a person does not wish to attend an appointment, they do not have to. David feels people deserve warmth, support and forgiveness only; never ever punishment, criticism or negative consequences.
Mindfulness meditation is about learning this sort of healthy relationship with the present moment and all aspects of our lives. We train our mind with mindfulness and meditation techniques to learn to treat each moment of our day, and each activity that needs doing, as very important and equally respectable. The more we succeed in our mindfulness training, the more relaxed, happy, fulfilling, productive and stress-free our life becomes.
