She has completed a Bachelor of Human Movement Science (psychology major), and Bachelor of Arts-Psychology Honours at Central Qld University . She followed this by completing a Master of Education (special education/counselling). During her working life she has gained an extensive knowledge and understanding of attachment and trauma, as well as positive behaviour support . She has worked with both children and adults with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as with adults with complex mental health needs. Her experience has included developing behaviour support plans, assessment of functioning, mental health, behaviour, and IQ, as well as providing training on ASD, other Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health and positive behaviour support to direct care workers. She currently also works part-time for Illawarra Community Mental Health where she is engaged in many roles including working with clients who self-harm and have emerging personality disorder traits in the Gold Card Clinic (associated with University Of Wollongong Project Air strategy). She is passionate about using her knowledge of mental health to assist people with dual diagnoses of developmental disability and mental health disability access the support they need. Amanda is trained in a number of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma informed practice and therapy, and mindfulness practices. Perhaps one of her most valued achievement though is being mum to three young adult sons, two of whom are diagnosed with ASD level 1.
