Vanessa Poliness is a well-rounded psychologist working with children, adolescents, families, individual adults and couples. She specialises in psychodynamic and narrative therapy approaches providing counselling for a wide range of issues including anger, violence, and substance dependence.
I prefer to work from a psychodynamic perspective whereby clients have an opportunity to explore their childhood experiences and their interpretation of those experiences. This is done in a safe environment and allows clients to understand how they came to be the person they are today; why they do the things they do; how their past experiences have impacted on them and play- out today. Having greater insight may provide clients with a more emotionally connected self that will hopefully transfer into other more connected and meaningful relationships. Additionally, with a greater understanding of themselves, clients may make healthier, adaptive decisions about their behaviour and their future.
