Tien is a Musculoskeletal and Sports physiotherapist, with over 15 years of clinical experience in public and private practice, and sports physiotherapy. Tien has recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management from the University of South Australia and University of Adelaide. His philosophy to injury management is “prevention is the best cure”.
Upon returning back to Adelaide 7 years ago, Tien has developed a keen interest in occupational physiotherapy. Working in the compensable scheme, Tien has been exposed to various business types through the undertaking of work site assessments, job analysis, manual handling training, graduated return to work plannoing and on site physiotherapy services.
Tien considers that the collaboration of supportive management, safety advisors and return to work coordinators, together with a good occupational health and safety management system (including early intervention), as being instrumental in achieving a favourable outcome. This includes reducing the proportion of injuries which become a worker’scompensation claim or even escalatong to a chronic condition.
Occupational physiotherapy has the potential to benefit a business at multiple levels of involvement. An onsite physiotherapist has the clinical advantage of managing an injury by being involved within 24 hours, having intimate knowledge of the work environment and identifying appropriate modified duties and/or work hardening for injured workers. The aim is to return the injured worker back to pre-injury status. There is also additional benefit of risk assessment and management, injury prevention and workplace health promotion.
