Sonja completed her Bachelor of Health Sciences/ Masters of Physiotherapy Practice at La Trobe University and has since worked in private practice. She quickly developed an interest in rehab and exercise, which led her to complete the Rehabilitation Series with Polestar Australia to further her extensive Pilates training as well as ASCA Strength and Conditioning Level 1.
In order to pursue her interest in women's health, Sonja completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Exercise and Women's Health at the University of Melbourne where she gained the skills and knowledge to manage conditions affecting women throughout the lifespan. She understands the specific physical needs of women and the impact of exercise during pregnancy, post-partum, menopause and osteopenia/osteoporosis. She strongly believes in the beneficial impact of exercise on a person's physical and psychological health, and so her ultimate goal is to keep women active and exercising safely (and challengingly!) throughout these different stages in life. Sonja likes to integrate physiotherapy treatment techniques such as dry needling, manual therapy and various other techniques with exercise prescription and clinical pilates. She can help with conditions such as pelvic girdle pain, thoracic and low back pain, hip pain, coccydinia, abdominal (diastasis rectus abdominis) and pelvic floor muscle weakness and gestational diabetes mellitus.
Sonja strongly encourages all ante-natal women to book in for a consult to learn how to start training their pelvic floor muscles and how to safely exercise and stay active throughout their pregnancy. She can also help post-natal women with pelvic floor rehabilitation, which is essential regardless of type of delivery in order to reduce the risk of incontinence and pelvic organ prolapses in the future.
