Professor John Wheatley is the Director of the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Westmead Hospital, and holds appointments as a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney, NH&MRC Practitioner Fellow, and Director of the Ludwig Engel Centre for Respiratory Research at the Westmead Millennium Institute. He is a past President of the Australasian Sleep Association, past executive committee member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, and past Chairman of the SAC in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine of the Royal Australian College of Physicians. He is an associate editor for the journal Sleep. His clinical expertise is in the management of obstructive sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders, and he leads an active research program investigating new ways to treat sleep apnoea.
