Professor Lee is a Queensland graduate having completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1991, a Master of Medical Science in Ophthalmology in 1994 and Ophthalmology training in 1999 and a Doctorate of Medicine in 2005.. He returned from the United Kingdom in 2001 completing a Glaucoma fellowship at Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre and a Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Particular specialties include cataract phacoemulsification techniques, state of the art corneal transplantation, and advanced management of primary and complex glaucoma.

Awards received include the Pharmacia and Upjohn RACO Award 1998, Alcon/RACO Travelling Scholarship 2001, AUSCRS Film Festival 2001 and 2005, World Glaucoma Congress Film Festival 2013, RANZCO Award for Excellence 2013, Royal Childrens Hospital Medal of Service 2018, the Dart Lecture 2019 and Keynote Speaker Glaucoma New Zealand symposium 2021.

He has an active interest in ophthalmic teaching having presented over 250 lectures at local, national and international levels as well as more than 120 publications and book chapters in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Lee is a member of the Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and Co-founder of the International Ophthalmology Portal https://iop.vision. He holds the academic title of Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Queensland.
