Before moving back to Australia after completing her studies in the Netherlands, Sandra spent a number of years working in the US in various roles including universities, conducting neuropsychological assessments in memory and Alzheimer’s clinics, as well as research settings. Her work in clinical trials enabled her to work primarily with clients diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, as well as Schizoaffective Disorders. In addition to psychotic disorders, she has a particular interest in trauma, Acute Stress Disorder (ASD), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Adjustment Disorder, grief and loss, and she believes in trauma informed care. Throughout the years she has worked in a variety of settings including universities, community, inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as private practice. She worked with a wide variety of patients from different ethnicities, races, and minorities, and whose ages ranged from early adulthood, adults, as well as the geriatric population. Sandra utilizes a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and has a great interest in psychodynamic therapy. Sandra believes that above all, a strong therapeutic relationship is the key to successful progress in therapy. Sandra understands that it requires significant courage for an individual to come to therapy, therefore, she aims to provide a safe setting where the client feels comfortable to openly discuss any issues in a non-judgmental, warm, empathic and supportive environment. She believes in a person centered approach and working alongside the client throughout the duration of the therapeutic process. Sandra is available on Mondays and Tuesdays at the Little Collins Street CBD office.
