Melanie is an Australian Physiotherapy Association titled Sports & Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with a Masters in Sports & Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Exercise Science qualifications, & a special interest in dance. She has extensive experience treating professional dancers in ballet, contemporary & musical theatre as well as working with adolescent dancers of all dance genres. Melanie is Physiotherapy consultant to QUT Dance, providing treatment & lecturing to the dance students. She has provided physiotherapy to Queensland Ballet & Expressions Dance Company, in 2013 Melanie was a relief locum for The Australian Ballet. Her other experience includes work with touring companies Sydney Dance Company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Royal New Zealand Ballet, & Paris Opera Ballet & she has been company physiotherapist to Legally Blonde, Mary Poppins, Grease & other touring shows for their Brisbane seasons. At Pondera, Melanie treats injuries, conducts tertiary dance assessments, pre-pointe assessments as well as supplying ongoing advice & program design for performance enhancement. Melanie’s experience dancing herself lead her to gain an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. She has spoken at the Australian regional meeting for the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science, World Dance Alliance conference, Australian Society of Performing Arts Healthcare conference, as well as for various dance syllabi & assisted in professional development for fellow physiotherapists. Her skills continue to be developed through membership of the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science & the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
