Patrick Farhart is an Australian Physiotherapy Association Titled Sports Physiotherapist; having completed postgraduate training in Sports Physiotherapy. He graduated as a physiotherapist from the University of Sydney in 1986, and then completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney in 2000.
He has 26 years of experience in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal injury and has been involved in private physiotherapy practice since 1990. He served as the head physiotherapist to the NSW cricket team from 1990 to 2009 and to the Hampshire cricket team in England from 2002 to 2006. He has worked with the Australian cricket team on tours to England (1989 and 2001), Pakistan (1998), New Zealand (2000), South Africa (2000) and India (2001). He has also previously worked with high level Australian Football and Rugby League teams. He is currently the physiotherapist for the Sydney Sixers 20/20 cricket team and is also the physiotherapist to the Kings XI Punjab Team in the Indian Premier League.
He has a special interest in the biomechanics of human movement, and how this relates to injury and recovery, and uses this to help his patients return to their chosen activity, sport or employment. As a result of his extensive work with cricketers, he has developed a particular interest in the management of lower back pain, as well as lower limb and shoulder overuse injuries.
He is an educator on the University of Sydney postgraduate sports physiotherapy program and has conducted regular ongoing education for physiotherapists, sports trainers and doctors in the management of musculoskeletal and sports injury. He has contributed to 12 peer reviewed articles on musculoskeletal injury, is an invited reviewer for the British Journal of Sports Medicine and assists in the supervision of sports medicine and sports science professionals undertaking postgraduate research degrees.
