Josh is experienced in providing counselling to adults and adolescents within a variety of settings including employee assistance programs and school systems. He predominantly employs Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, while also drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and some elements of Narrative and Schema therapy. He also incorporates the latest research in positive psychology, neuroscience, and human sexuality research. Josh’s approach prioritises the client-counsellor relationship and working side by side with the client to achieve meaningful change.

Josh enjoys playing and listening to music, travelling, and reading in his spare time. He plays a variety of games with friends, boardgames/card/video/roleplaying, and has some ties to Melbourne Independent videogame industry.

WHAT TYPES OF CLIENTS DOES JOSH WORK WITH?

Josh loves working with people from a variety of backgrounds, from adolescents and younger adults to the older generations. His areas of interest are Depression, Anxiety, Grief and Loss, Sexuality/Gender Issues, Relational Issues and Meaning-Making/Wellbeing.

Josh specialises in helping those from LGBTQIA+ communities, and is passionate about social justice and advocacy. He appreciates the enormous diversity in identity, gender, and sexuality; from transgender, non binary, gender fluid, intersex, cis or agender individuals to lesbian, gay, bisexual, heterosexual, pansexual, asexual, poly or queer people, maintaining that each person is an ‘expert in their own life’. To this end, Josh works with issues including coming out, transitioning, and support while navigating healthcare.

Josh also has a keen interest in research and positive psychology; the science of wellbeing and happiness. He is also currently working in research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS

Josh is a Registered Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. He is also a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, and is a member of the Victorian Committee for the College of Counselling Psychologists. He holds an individual membership with the National LGBTI Health Alliance, and participates in VAC’s MindOUT network. He has a Master of Psychology (Counselling), an Honours Degree in Psychology, a Certificate IV in Telephone Counselling and a Bachelor of Arts.
