Dr Benjamin Cass is a shoulder and elbow surgeon with his practice based on the lower north shore of Sydney.
Dr Cass trained originally through Sydney University and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals. He was appointed to Sydney University as the Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery and as Consultant Surgeon to The Royal North Shore Hospital in 2006. He was appointed as a Visiting Medical Officer at The Royal North Shore Hospital and Ryde Hospital in 2010.
Dr Cass passed the Australian Orthopaedic Association and The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowship exams in 2004. He then completed two post-fellowship training posts one at The Mayo clinic in the United States working with Prof Bernard Morrey and one at Royal North Shore Hospital working with Prof. David Sonnabend.
Dr Cass specialises in shoulder reconstruction and replacement for tendon or labral tears, instability or arthritis via arthroscopic and when needed open surgery. Dr Cass also specialises in reconstructive procedures for the elbow including ligament reconstruction, arthroscopy, releases and replacement.
Dr Cass operates at major private hospitals including The Mater Misericordiae in North Sydney and North Shore Private Hospital His public appointments are at Royal North Shore Hospital, Ryde Hospital and Dubbo Base Hospital. Through Royal North Shore Hospital Dr Cass (along with Dr Young and Prof. Sonnabend) provide the major service for treating fractures and trauma of the upper limb for this level 1 trauma centre that serves over 350,000 people - many whom are sent in for specialised care from smaller hospitals.
Dr Cass visits Dubbo each 6 weeks to consult and operate, thus providing a service for country patients and continuing a link started by his grandfather as a rural NSW GP.
