Genevieve Rix is a Psychologist who brings a warm, empathetic, collaborative, engaged and emotion focused approach to working with adolescents (16+) and adults.   Genevieve has been working in community mental health since 2013. Genevieve has a breadth of experience - having worked within high school, university, hospital and sub-acute psychiatric settings. Genevieve has experience treating a wide variety of mental health difficulties - including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, relationship and social issues, self-esteem, grief and loss and weight management concerns.

Genevieve's Master of Counselling Psychology research and thesis focused on developing a qualitative understanding of the bio-psycho-social factors that facilitate weight loss and weight loss maintenance following Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap Band) Surgery. Genevieve has a particular interest in supporting clients both pre and post weight-loss surgery to develop support structures that have been identified as influencing attainment of weight loss goals.

Genevieve draws from a variety of therapeutic modalities in her feedback-informed, client-centred approach. Genevieve has undertaken extensive training with Dr Melissa Harte in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and is working toward becoming internationally accredited as an EFT practitioner. Genevieve highly values the opportunities EFT provides clients who are seeking to process past emotional injuries and make meaning of their emotional experiences.   Genevieve also utilises Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) in work with clients. Genevieve has undertaken professional development in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and is able to provide DBT-informed therapy to support clients seeking to expand their skills in Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
