Jean Wong obtained her primary medical qualification from the University of Melbourne in 1996. She then commenced training in accredited Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne in 1999.
Jean became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) in 2005. During her training, she also worked on the Quality and Safety Unit of the Royal Women’s Hospital. This allowed her to gain experience in clinical risk management and participate in perinatal and gynaecology morbidity and mortality activities.
In 2005, Jean travelled to the United Kingdom, where she worked as an O&G registrar in the National Health Service. She gained valuable experience working in a general O&G unit with subspecialty interests in benign vulval disease and sub-fertility. During this time Jean spent fifteen months working on the gynaecological oncology unit at the same hospital, looking after patients with cancers of the vagina, cervix, uterus and ovaries and refining her colposcopy skills.
Jean returned to Australia in April 2007 and has since worked as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Royal Women’s Hospital and Box Hill Hospital. She operates at the Royal Women’s Hospital and also teaches caesarean section procedures and general gynaecology to O&G trainees. Jean’s primary practice is in general O&G and she has a lively interest in teaching and mentoring junior medical staff as well as educating her patients.
