Dr Teresa Girolamo is a general practitioner who has extensive experience in the field of obesity management. She completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1994, is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and has been working in clinical general practice since 1997 both in Australia and overseas.
Dr Girolamo has always had an interest in preventative medicine and lifestyle modification, which has led to her involvement in Australian Metabolic and Obesity Surgery. Through her work in general practice she is able to approach her patients in a holistic manner, and understands the multiple stressors, both medical and psychosocial, which may impact on an individual’s weight and lifestyle choices.
As a general practitioner Dr Girolamo has extensive experience in dealing with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and osteoarthritis, and finds the positive medical outcomes that are achieved after substantial weight loss to be hugely rewarding. She also has a keen interest in the link between obesity and the prevalence of certain cancers, as well as the affects that obesity may have on fertility and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
Patients often describe significant sustained weight loss as a positive life changing process, and Dr Girolamo is excited to be a part of this. She understands that there may be many hurdles along the way, and aims to support her patients and their families through this journey.
Dr Girolamo has enjoyed working as part of the AMOS team since 2008. She is also the co-founder of Re:You – a GP led weight management clinic, utilising evidence-based medical and surgical options to provide patients with an individualised management plan.
