Dr Tamsin Santos has been with Age Right since mid-2018 after working in the public hospital system since 2004. Dr Santos wanted to have a more direct role in the lives of older Victorians and joined the Age Right community. She is passionate about helping people to be their best regardless of their age. She enjoys preventative medicine and aiding in bone and muscle health. She wants people get the best information on how to keep healthy.

Dr Santos also undertakes cognition and dementia assessments and medication reviews. She believes that staying independent as a person gets older is of utmost importance. As a doctor, she considers the whole person and works together with her team to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Dr Santos undertook her medical training at the University of Melbourne and because of her interest in adult medicine undertook her specialist training in Geriatric Medicine at Monash and Western Health. As a specialist, Dr Santos has worked in Western Health in their memory clinic and across many programs in Ballarat Health Services including; inpatient geriatric and rehabilitation wards, the community transition care program and the memory, continence and heart failure clinics.

Dr Santos has also completed her Diploma of Clinical Education and was Supervisor of Training for junior doctors at the Queen Elizabeth Centre at Ballarat Health Services. She is also an accreditation site surveyor of Victorian hospitals for the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria.

Dr Santos has been an Affiliate Researcher with Monash University and the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine since 2016. She has contributed to 2 books as well as publishing a paper; The impact of cognitive impairment in dementia on self-care domains in diabetes. In partnership with Safer Care Victoria, Dr Santos has been involved in the education program Train the Trainer, which upskills community health care workers to better understand, screen and manage cognitive changes in people with chronic disease.

In her own time, Dr Santos enjoys the hustle and bustle that comes with 3 children. She enjoys the challenges they offer, especially when it comes to time management. Dr Santos likes to balance their busy lives with time spent with grandparents and extended family. The Santos family particularly enjoys exercising together. She is passionate about trying to instil a sense of healthy ageing in her 3 children. She believes the old adage “you can never start too early” when it comes to a healthy life.
